POGAM is now PIOGA

The POGAM or Pennsylvania Oil, Gas, and Mineral Association was formed on July 27, 1918. This is thought to be the oldest continuously functioning oil and gas association in America.

This is a group of independent producers and explorers of oil and gas that operate in the Pennsylvania and Appalachian Basin area.

The main focus of POGAM is to find the energy reservoirs and develop them with environmentally sound methods whether they are located on public or private land. The membership of this organization is made up of many independent companies, along with individual men and women. The headquarters is located in the capital of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg.

This group has changed over the years since it was first founded. On March 10, 1983 they went through a major reorganization and combined their group with the Pennsylvania Oil and Gas Association.

The overall mission of this group has not changed over the years. This is to secure an adequate supply of energy for the nation to use which will keep the economy running and help keep our culture intact.

In March of 2010, the groups IOGA or Independent Oil and Gas Association, along with POGAM, held separate meetings that approved a merger of the two groups. This merger became official on April 1, 2010. The total memberships of both groups have now been fully integrated into one with a new name called PIOGA or Pennsylvania Independent Oil and Gas Association.

The head quarters of this association will be located in the old IOGA offices in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A new website will also be launched to supply its membership with information about the group and its activities.

As of today POGAM is now PIOGA.
