Transloading

The process of transloading is the transferring of a customer’s cargo from one type of transporting vehicle to another. This term is the description of the mechanical process that cargo goes through while it is being transported from its place of manufacture, or point of origin, to its final destination for processing or distribution.

The hauling of freight is nothing new. This has been occurring ever since farmers decided to earn extra income from their crops and exchange them for goods they could not produce themselves. The transload process came into being when cargo in bulk needed to traverse different terrain on its journey to its final destination.

In time, the owners of cargo that need to use this mechanism of transport realized that most of the damage or loss occurred during the period of transferring the cargo from one vehicle to the other. A good example would be the unloading of freight from a railroad car onto a truck or tractor trailer.

The sponsor of this blog is TranZ Bulk Material Transfer. The owners of this company recognized a need to supply customers with direct transfer of bulk materials from rail line to the point of use location.  Starting with energy producing plants that needed coal at the best possible price TranZ designed this trucking element of carting the bulk coal from the rail line to the generating plant.

Working in conjunction with several rail lines they offer their service to all who need it.  Bulk materials might be rail car loads of crushed stone or sand and gravel that comes from the mine and is distributed to storage yards where it may be processed into building materials and used in road making, asphalt plants, concrete plants and the like.

It is much more efficient to haul by rail out of the quarry or mine and deliver it to a yard for distribution or where it may be transloaded by truck to the end user.  This is a very smooth operation and saves fuel costs and multiple handling points.

Safety is also assured by having fewer times that it is necessary to handle the materials during its final destination. This is achieved when attention to detail and total observance of all safety procedures are followed.

If you are in need of the transloading of your materials, look to the professionals that can assist you so the safest transfer can take place and your bulk materials will arrive on time and within budget.
